Ayrshire Growth Deal Skills Mapping

Background

EKOS was commissioned by the Ayrshire Skills Investment Fund (ASIF) Sub-Committee to identify the most relevant, effective, targeted, and innovative skills development and employment interventions to ensure the Fund delivers on its strategic investment objectives in support of the Ayrshire Growth Deal (AGD). The study was designed to provide the Sub-Committee with robust evidence and clear recommendations to guide the effective allocation and implementation of the Fund.

The research involved desk research including mapping of existing skills pathways in Ayrshire and surrounding areas in relation to AGD key growth sectors; primary research in the form of stakeholder feedback consultations and a stakeholder workshop with direct engagement with employers, training providers, and other key stakeholders.

The consultation programme was central to the work, providing valuable insight into industry perspectives on current and future skills needs. Alongside this, EKOS mapped existing skills pathways in Ayrshire, identifying where provision aligned with AGD growth sectors and where gaps remained. Drawing these strands together, the study identified the most relevant and effective interventions for ASIF to prioritise in order to maximise its impact.

The research provided the ASIF Sub-Committee with:

  • a clear map of existing skills pathways across the region and their alignment to AGD priority sectors
  • a detailed assessment of industry and stakeholder-identified needs and gaps in current provision
  • targeted recommendations on how ASIF can be implemented and used effectively to deliver maximum impact in support of the AGD

The outcome of the commission was a set of practical, evidence-based recommendations that will guide the Sub-Committee’s investment decisions and ensure the ASIF contributes meaningfully to the strategic objectives of the Ayrshire Growth Deal.
